Karen Huger, star of The Real Housewives of Potomac, was found guilty on December 18, 2024, of five out of six charges related to a car crash in Potomac, Maryland, in March 2024. The charges included driving under the influence (DUI), negligent driving, failure to control speed to avoid a collision, and failure to notify authorities of an address change. She was acquitted of reckless driving.
The crash occurred when Karen, driving her 2017 Maserati, struck a median and crosswalk sign before colliding with a parking sign off the road. She was not injured, and although she was not arrested at the scene, she was later charged. During the trial, an EMT testified that Karen was swaying and verbally aggressive with first responders, while body camera footage showed her slurring her speech and refusing a field sobriety test. Her defense claimed that Karen was emotionally distressed but not impaired during a phone conversation with her cousin before the crash.
Following the guilty verdict, Karen’s attorney, A. Scott Bolden, expressed disappointment but respected the jury’s decision. He confirmed that they planned to pursue an appeal. Karen’s sentencing is scheduled for January 29, 2025, and she faces up to two years in prison.
New episodes of The Real Housewives of Potomac air Sundays at 8 pm ET on Bravo.
