Briana Boston, a Florida woman, was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly making threatening remarks toward her insurance company, BlueCross BlueShield, which led to police involvement. The incident occurred after Boston’s claims were denied, and during a phone call with the company, she allegedly said, “Delay, Deny, Depose. You people are next.” This phrase raised concerns, as it closely resembled a phrase—“Deny, Depose, Defend”—found on shell casings at the scene of the recent murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
Police took the threat seriously, and officers visited Boston’s home. During questioning, she admitted to using the phrase, explaining that it was inspired by recent news coverage. Boston also expressed anger toward healthcare companies, claiming they “deserved karma” for their practices. She does not own a gun and has been charged with threats to commit a mass shooting or act of terrorism. Boston was booked into the Polk County Jail with a $100,000 bond.
The case highlights concerns over the impact of the recent murder of CEO Brian Thompson and how it may have influenced Boston’s actions.
