Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, reportedly expressed deep frustrations with the healthcare industry in a handwritten manifesto. Released by journalist Ken Klippenstein and confirmed by law enforcement sources to TMZ, the 262-word letter details Mangione’s grievances against corporate greed, particularly targeting UnitedHealthcare.
In the manifesto addressed to “the Feds,” Mangione criticized the U.S. healthcare system, highlighting its high costs and relatively low global ranking in life expectancy. He singled out UnitedHealthcare, describing it as one of the largest corporations in the country and accusing it of profiting at the expense of Americans.
Though Mangione did not directly name Thompson in his writings, he suggested that the actions of certain individuals or entities in the industry justified his violent response, writing, “These parasites simply had it coming.” He also apologized for any distress caused but maintained that his actions were a result of perceived systemic injustices.
Mangione, who acted alone, outlined his thoughts and plans in what he described as “straggling notes and a To-Do list.” He ended the letter by framing his act as a blunt confrontation of what he sees as power imbalances in the healthcare system, declaring himself “the first to face it with such brutal honesty.”
Mangione is currently in custody following his arrest in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and is awaiting an extradition hearing. Efforts to reach his legal counsel for a statement have so far been unsuccessful.
