Luigi Mangione, the man charged in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, reportedly criticized the healthcare insurance industry in a manifesto found after the incident. According to CNN, the manifesto made a reference to UnitedHealthcare, but it did not directly mention Thompson, who was fatally shot outside a Manhattan hotel last week.
The New York Post reports that the two-and-a-half-page document was addressed to “the Feds” and contained allegations that healthcare companies, including UnitedHealthcare, prioritize massive profits at the expense of the American people. In the manifesto, Mangione is said to have written, “The reality is, these [companies] have gotten too powerful, and they continue to abuse our country for immense profit.”
The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge.
