A pair of burglars in Brazil brought a bizarre twist to holiday crime by dressing as Santa Claus for a heist, but their actions were anything but festive. Security footage captured the duo breaking into an electronics store in Cláudio, Minas Gerais, during the early hours of Sunday morning, around 4 a.m.
The video shows them smashing through the glass entrance, with one slipping on the shards as they rushed in. They quickly ransacked the store, grabbing items from behind the counter and even making off with shelves of tumblers and bottles of liquor. Their “Santa sacks” full, they fled in a getaway car before authorities could respond.
The store owner, Gustavo de Souza, spoke to local news outlet G1 about the incident. He expressed his frustration and despair, noting this was the second time he’d been targeted, the first being an armed robbery years ago. The earlier crime left him with a long recovery period, and now he faces another setback just as he was regaining stability.
Police have not yet made arrests, and the unusual costumes have added a surreal twist to a serious crime. While the sight of Santa suits might typically bring joy, in this case, they’ve left a community shaken and a store owner reeling ahead of the holiday season.
