Stephanie Hsu recently opened up about her decision to turn down an audition for the Wicked movie. The 34-year-old actress, known for her Broadway musical theatre background and her Oscar-nominated performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once, explained that while she was asked to audition for the role of Glinda (or Galinda), she felt it wasn’t the right fit for her.
During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live on December 2, Stephanie revealed, “I don’t feel in my heart to be a Glinda/Galinda,” expressing her belief that the role wasn’t meant for her. She also shared her thoughts on Ariana Grande’s portrayal of Glinda in the film, praising her performance as “giving Lucille Ball-level comedic performance.” Stephanie seemed relieved that she wasn’t cast, noting how well Ariana suited the part.
Ariana Grande ultimately landed the role of Glinda, and other actresses, including some confirmed ones, also auditioned for the part.
