The Six Triple Eight, directed and written by Tyler Perry, highlights the incredible story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion—the first and only all-Black, all-female Women’s Army Corps unit to serve overseas during World War II. Despite the challenges of facing both racism and sexism, these women performed an essential mission: clearing a massive backlog of mail for American troops in just 90 days.
Kerry Washington stars as Major Charity Adams, the battalion’s commanding officer. The ensemble cast also includes Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, Susan Sarandon, and Dean Norris, among others. The film features choreography by Debbie Allen and an original song, “The Journey,” written by Diane Warren and performed by H.E.R.
The Six Triple Eight is set to release in select theaters on December 6, with a global release on Netflix on December 20. The film promises to be an inspiring tribute to these unsung heroes who shattered barriers with their courage and determination.
