Patrick Mahomes was fined $14,069 by the NFL for unsportsmanlike conduct following a touchdown celebration during the Kansas City Chiefs’ game against the Buffalo Bills last Sunday. The gesture that earned him the fine was a “violent gesture” where Mahomes mimicked firing a gun with his fingers. This move was considered inappropriate by the officials and resulted in the penalty.
This isn’t the first time Mahomes has faced fines for unsportsmanlike conduct. Last December, he was fined $50,000 for verbally abusing an official during another game against the Bills, which the Chiefs lost. This most recent loss, which ended the Chiefs’ unbeaten streak, saw the team defeated 30-21.
In addition to Mahomes’ fine, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was also fined $100,000 for publicly criticizing an official following the game. However, for Mahomes, the fine is a relatively small amount given his earnings.
