Jonathan Bailey’s performance in Wicked: Part One has certainly grabbed attention, especially for his vocal work in the song “Dancing Through Life.” Fans were initially curious whether the voice they heard in the trailer was truly his or if he was lip-syncing to someone else. The good news is that Jonathan Bailey did indeed sing his parts in the film!
In an interview with ComicBook, Jonathan revealed that he felt a mix of nerves and excitement while preparing to sing alongside powerhouse vocalists like Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. He confessed that he “completely disassociated” during his performance, which helped him focus despite the pressure of sharing the stage with such renowned singers. He even mentioned how the experience felt like a “facelift” due to the intensity of their vocal prowess.
To help prepare for the role, Jonathan worked with Ariana’s vocal coach, Eric Vetro, via Zoom. So when you hear his voice in the movie, it’s definitely him singing, bringing his own unique energy to the performance. Wicked: Part One opens in theaters on November 22, promising a musical spectacle with incredible vocal performances.
