Moo Deng has taken social media by storm. The pygmy hippo has gone viral multiple times, but nothing could’ve prepared audiences for Bowen’s complete hippo costume and his take on the young animal star.
After being smacked in the face with water from the hose and attempting to bite at it, Bowen returns to the Weekend Update Desk soaked and ready to continue his bit. After thanking the ‘Moo Deng boo thangs’ for their support, he goes on to talk about how awful the harassment as a new star has been.
Colin Jost, one of the Weekend Update hosts, compares the baby hippo to rising pop star, Chappell Roan. When asked if Moo Deng knew who Chappell Roan was, she gasped in shock before replying, “I’m ten weeks old, Colin,” the pygmy hippo reminded the host before finishing with, “Of course I know Chappell Roan.”
The sketch continues to draw parallels between the pygmy hippo and the Midwest princess, with Moo Deng demanding fans to, “Stop harassing her and stop throwing shellfish at her.”
