Noussair Mazraoui has commented on the price Manchester United paid Bayern Munich to bring him to Old Trafford. The Moroccan right-back has quickly established himself as a fan favorite.
The Red Devils paid €15 million for Mazraoui, who played in all six of his side’s opening games of the season. He’s contributed and assisted and has consistently been one of the team’s standout performers.
Mazraoui, 26, was asked about the fee amid his impressive start to life at Manchester United. He said (via transfer expert Fabrizio Romano):
“It’s not on me to decide the price… but it works good for me because I was not that expensive. I made a good start so it is easy for the fans to say I am a good buy this summer!”
Mazraoui’s fee allowed United to strengthen in other positions. His former Bayern teammate Matthijs de Ligt arrived for €45 million before Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte joined in a €50 million deal.
The 29-cap Morocco international replaced Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The English right-back left for West Ham United for €17.6 million.
There were concerns regarding Wan-Bissaka’s departure as his one-on-one defending abilities had been key for Erik ten Hag. Mazraoui has quickly lived up to expectations and was perhaps one of the best signings of the summer.
“Our coach is from that area” – Mazraoui looks ahead to Manchester United’s clash with FC Twente
Manchester United are next in action on Wednesday (September 25) when they kickstart their UEFA Europa League campaign. They host Eredivisie side FC Twente whom Ten Hag knows very well.
Mazraoui alluded to this when speaking ahead of the encounter with The Tukkers. He said (via club media):
“Twente was always a difficult away game. I haven’t been there very often myself but our coach is from that area and I get on very well with him so in that sense we get on with the Tukkers [those from the region].”
Manchester United have made a topsy-turvy start to the season, winning two, losing two and drawing one of their five league games. They were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace last weekend after thrashing Barnsley 7-0 in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Mazraoui can expect to start for United against FC Twente, given Ten Hag’s lack of options at left-back. Diogo Dalot has been playing as a makeshift left-back to deal with injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
