Nicole Scherzinger will be making her Broadway debut next weekend in the musical Sunset Boulevard and she’s opening up about being selected to play Norma Desmond, a character known for being a faded talent.
The entertainer is just 46 and while the role has usually been associated with older actresses, Glenn Close was actually 47 when she originated the role on Broadway in 1994.
“I can’t say she was flattered — there are many roles Nicole always dreamt of playing, and this was not one of them,” director Jamie Lloyd told Variety.
Nicole is explaining why she feels it’s a “tragedy” that she’s able to relate to the character.

“The tragedy is that I am in my prime,” Nicole told Variety. “I’m stronger than ever and my voice has never been better. And the industry doesn’t see that. They just see your age. So they discard you and dismiss you.”
Nicole already won the Olivier Award for Best Actress for her performance in the London production and she’s considered a frontrunner for the Tony Award next year. Preview performances begin on September 28. Get your tickets now!
