Cynthia Erivo has her sights set on a dream role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Fresh off her celebrated performance as Elphaba in the highly anticipated Wicked film adaptation, the 38-year-old actress shared her vision for her next big project. During a conversation with the National Board of Review, she revealed her desire to portray Storm, the powerful weather-manipulating mutant from the X-Men franchise.
“I really want to play Storm,” Erivo said, referencing Ororo Munroe, a character previously brought to life by Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp. She highlighted Storm’s untapped potential, saying, “We haven’t uncovered how grand she is and all of that inner turmoil that she has. I think there’s a world in which we can do something like that.”
Erivo’s dream might not be far-fetched, as Marvel is gearing up to introduce the X-Men into its cinematic universe. The process has already begun with Hugh Jackman’s highly anticipated return as Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has also teased the timeline for the mutants’ official debut.
Storm, a beloved and influential character, continues to inspire fans and celebrities alike. One young star even dressed as Storm for Halloween, earning Halle Berry’s enthusiastic approval. With Erivo’s passion and talent, she could bring a fresh and powerful interpretation to this iconic role.
