Newly released body cam footage highlights the heroic actions of New Orleans police officers who stopped the Bourbon Street terrorist attack on New Year’s Eve. The footage captures the tense moments after the attacker, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, crashed his truck into NYE revelers, leaving 14 people injured.
As officers approached the vehicle with their guns drawn, they faced a life-threatening situation. With the driver’s side door open and airbags deployed, Jabbar suddenly emerged and began firing from behind the airbag. The officers quickly retreated but returned fire, ultimately neutralizing Jabbar and preventing further casualties.
During the exchange, two NOPD officers were shot and hospitalized but are expected to recover. Despite facing criticism for how Jabbar managed to bypass police barriers and reach Bourbon Street, the newly released footage underscores the bravery and quick thinking of the officers who risked their lives to end the attack.
