Adrien Brody addressed the long-standing rumors that he’s banned from Saturday Night Live following his controversial appearance in May 2003. During that episode, he introduced musical guest Sean Paul while wearing a dreadlocks wig and speaking in a Jamaican accent, which was reportedly an unscripted moment.
In a recent interview with Vulture, Brody explained, “I think [Lorne Michaels] wasn’t happy with me embellishing a bit, but they allowed me to. I thought that was a safe space to do that, weirdly.” While he acknowledged that he hasn’t been invited back to SNL, he stopped short of confirming an official ban, saying, “I don’t know what to tell you.”
Brody is currently enjoying critical acclaim, having recently won a Golden Globe for his performance in The Brutalist, which also took home Best Motion Picture, Drama.
