John Mayer and producer/director McG have officially acquired the historic Jim Henson Studio lot for approximately $45 million, TMZ reports. Despite prior estimates of a $60 million price tag, the final deal reflects the lower figure. Mayer will take charge of the recording studio, while McG will manage the remaining facilities on the property.
The Jim Henson Studio has a storied history, serving as a creative hub for legendary artists like Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Ozzy Osbourne, and The Supremes. It is also the birthplace of the iconic anthem “We Are the World.”
While a name change is reportedly being considered, Mayer and McG are committed to preserving the legacy of the property. They plan to retain the current staff and ensure the studio remains a premier destination for recording on the West Coast, honoring its rich cultural and musical heritage.
Mayer, who already has a personal connection to the studio through his existing offices there, is determined to safeguard its historical significance while maintaining its standing in the entertainment industry.
