Jay-Z’s legal team is actively pursuing legal action against attorney Tony Buzbee, accusing him of attempting to extort the rapper. According to a motion filed by Jay-Z’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, Buzbee allegedly tried to secure a settlement by keeping Jay-Z’s name confidential in a lawsuit involving a “Jane Doe” accuser. When Jay-Z refused to pay, Buzbee allegedly amended the lawsuit to reveal Jay-Z’s identity and accused him of involvement in the alleged rape of a 13-year-old in 2000.
The lawsuit, which also names Diddy, claims that Jay-Z played a role in the assault, but NBC News reported multiple discrepancies in the accuser’s story, including inconsistencies about her whereabouts and her father’s recollection of picking her up after the incident. Spiro also claims that Buzbee failed to adequately investigate the allegations before filing the suit.
Spiro’s motion includes references to Buzbee’s past conduct, accusing him of using questionable tactics in legal proceedings. It even mentions a prior case where Buzbee was reprimanded for comments he made about former baseball player Scott Erickson. Spiro is requesting the court to dismiss the lawsuit against Jay-Z and is also seeking a preservation order to protect important evidence from being destroyed.
In response, Buzbee dismissed the accusations as “ridiculous” and questioned whether past legal reprimands should impact the current case. He also accused Jay-Z’s legal team of deflecting attention from the case by focusing on unrelated incidents. Buzbee represents multiple individuals who have filed lawsuits against Diddy for alleged sex crimes.
