FX has decided not to move forward with a third season of The Old Man, the acclaimed series starring Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow. The show had a strong start with its season one premiere in June 2022, which became the most-watched FX series debut on Hulu at the time. However, the series faced significant delays between its two seasons, which impacted its momentum.
The production of The Old Man was originally delayed in 2019 due to the pandemic, and when Jeff Bridges was diagnosed with cancer, the show faced additional setbacks. Season two, which premiered in September 2024, was delayed further by the WGA strike, leading to a 2+ year wait. By the time season two finally aired, the anticipation had waned, and the show’s ratings couldn’t match the heights of its season one premiere, according to Deadline.
Due to these production issues and the decline in viewership, FX has opted to cancel the series after its second season.
