Bill Belichick is reportedly set to leave the NFL sidelines for a new challenge in 2025, with multiple reports indicating that he’s finalizing a contract to become the head coach at the University of North Carolina (UNC). This would mark Belichick’s first head coaching role in college football after a legendary NFL career.
Belichick, who was the head coach of the New England Patriots from 2000 to 2023 and led the team to six Super Bowl victories, has spent decades coaching at the professional level. Prior to his Patriots tenure, he had stints with the Cleveland Browns and assistant coaching roles with several NFL teams. Although his focus has always been the NFL, Belichick has shown a connection to college football, particularly this season, as he followed his son Stephen, who coaches at the University of Washington. Additionally, Belichick has ties to UNC through his father, Steve, who coached the Tar Heels in the 1950s.
While Belichick is just a few wins away from setting the NFL record for most head coach victories, it seems his pursuit of that milestone will be paused as he transitions to the college ranks with UNC.
