Jamie Foxx is opening up about his “near-death experience” and hospitalization in his new Netflix special What Had Happened Was. The Academy Award-winning actor reflects on the health scare that had fans worried about his well-being after he was rushed to an Atlanta hospital in April 2023. Foxx shared with the Los Angeles audience that he was “seconds and moments away from death,” describing how his exhaustion and physical strain led to him passing out in an elevator. He believed he had only passed out for a short while, but he was actually in a coma for weeks.
One of his only memories from the coma was hearing his daughter play guitar for him, a moment that he said helped bring him out of it. Foxx has been largely absent from public appearances and press events since his recovery, including during the release of They Cloned Tyrone in 2023, fueling speculation about his health. However, he’s now ready to return to work, with his upcoming movie Back In Action, co-starring Cameron Diaz, set to release in January 2025.
