Netflix celebrated the highly anticipated release of The Six Triple Eight with a star-studded premiere on December 4, 2024, at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. Directed by Tyler Perry, the film honors the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the only all-Black, all-female Women’s Army Corps unit deployed overseas during World War II. The film highlights their mission of clearing a massive backlog of mail for American troops within just 90 days while confronting war and racial discrimination.
Kerry Washington stars as Captain Charity Adams, leading an ensemble cast that includes Ebony Obsidian, Oprah Winfrey, Milauna Jackson, Sarah Jeffery, and more. The production also features choreography by Debbie Allen and an original song by Diane Warren performed by H.E.R.
The premiere was attended by key cast and crew, as well as notable guests such as Tina Knowles, Vivica A. Fox, George Lucas, Mellody Hobson, Big Sean, and Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos with producer Nicole Avant. Tyler Perry credited Lena Derriecott King, one of the last surviving members of the battalion, as a source of inspiration for the project.
The film will debut in select theaters on December 6, 2024, and will be available for streaming on Netflix starting December 20, 2024, marking a significant effort to bring this untold story to a wider audience.
