Wayne Northrop, a beloved television actor known for his impactful roles in shows like Days of Our Lives and Dynasty, has passed away at the age of 77. His publicist, Cynthia Snyder, confirmed the news, revealing that he died at the Motion Picture and Television Woodland Hills Home, an assisted living facility supporting members of the film industry.
Northrop had been living with Alzheimer’s disease for six years, which necessitated specialized care in his later years. His wife, actress Lynn Herring Northrop, shared a heartfelt statement:
“He took his final breath in the arms of family. We wish to thank the most caring and amazing place, The Motion Picture and Television Home, for taking such great care of him. Wayne touched so many people with his sense of humor and wit. A husband for 43 years, the best dad ever to his two boys, Hank and Grady, and a rancher who loved his cows and was a friend to many.”
Northrop began his acting career in the late 1970s with appearances in Baretta and The Waltons. He gained widespread recognition in 1981 as Michael Culhane in Dynasty. His career-defining role came with Days of Our Lives, where he portrayed Roman Brady and Dr. Alex North, appearing in over 1,000 episodes between 1981 and 2006.
In addition to his work in soap operas, Northrop had notable roles in Port Charles, L.A. Law, Hotel, Cold Case, and The Young Riders. Outside of acting, he and Lynn owned a cattle ranch in California, reflecting his love for wildlife and conservation.
Northrop is survived by Lynn, his wife of 43 years, and their two sons, Hank and Grady. His passing marks the end of an era for fans of classic television and soap operas.
